Certificate of Completion

Q. Once I have completed training, will I receive any further information for my records to show I have met the Mandated Reporter training requirement?
Yes. After completing the training, you will be sent a certificate of completion. This certificate will be sent to the email address you entered as part of your registration information. It will be sent to you as an attached document. You may then print your certificate and/or forward it the appropriate staff in your organization.
Q. I finished the Self-Directed training and I haven’t received my certificate of completion. What can I do?
  • Have you completed the training successfully? At the end of the training you will see a confirmation page stating that you’ve finished the training. A message will pop up saying “Close this window to EXIT the training.” If you did not receive that confirmation page, please log back in and complete the last steps.
  • Please be sure to check any bulk, spam, or junk folders that you might have. The file size is larger than a regular e-mail so it’s possible it was sent to one of those folders.
Q. I’ve deleted the e-mail containing my certificate of completion, how can I get another copy?

Q. How is my attendance recorded with the New York State Education Department?
A. A record of your completion is sent to New York State Education Department—please allow 4 weeks for processing.
Q. What is Certification of Completion?
A. The New York State Board of Education, Office of Professions in compliance with education law requires specific titled job classifications when applying initially for licensure or a limited permit, to provide documentation of having completed two hours of coursework or training regarding the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. This is a one-time requirement and once taken does not need to be completed again.
Q. Who should request a Certification of Completion?
A. Certification of Completion is required for certain individuals, when applying initially for licensure or a limited permit. Please consult http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/ to assess if you are required to have certificate of completion and speak with your supervisor.

Q. Is this course approved by New York State?
A. This course meets the New York State Education Department mandatory requirements for Training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting. This training was updated, effective 11/1/2022, to meet requirements pursuant to Social Services Law section 413(5) as added by Part JJ of Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2021.
Q. Do I receive something stating that I’ve completed the self-directed training?
A. Yes, once you complete the training, a certificate of completion will be emailed to you.
Q. What is the cost?
A. There is no cost to participate in the Self-Directed Online Training.

Q. What are the computer requirements for running the self-directed training?
A. The use of a PC or laptop is highly recommended to take this training.
Q. What web browsers are supported?
A. Edge, Chrome and Firefox have been thoroughly tested. Please make sure you are running the most up-to-date version of your browser on your computer.
Q. What should I do if I encounter technical difficulties while taking the training, that prevent me from completing it?

Q. How do I retrieve my password for the self-directed training?
Please go to Human Services Learning Center (HSLC) and click "Forgot password" to recover your password.
Q. I didn’t receive the pre-class e-mail upon registering for the self-directed training?
A. First, check your junk e-mail folder. If the pre-class e-mail is not there, please contact customer service or request the pre-class email using the online form.
Q. I deleted the pre-class e-mail for the self-directed training?

Q. I’m in the training and the screen froze, what can I do?
A. Try or check the following:
  • Hit the Pause button on the bottom of the screen and leave it paused for a couple minutes and then hit the Play button.
  • Make sure the web browser that you’re using is the most current version.
  • Use another web browser, preferably Chrome or Firefox web browser.
  • There could be network issues or software securities that you are unaware of on the computer that you’re using.
  • Make sure you have a good internet connection. We recommend a high speed internet connection (DLS, Cable or LAN).
  • Exit out of the course and restart the browser.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Try the course from another computer.
  • Close all other applications on your computer while taking the online training.
  • Contact customer service.
